One of these outstanding teachers will be selected as the
state winner and will receive a citation signed by the
President of the United States, a paid trip for two to
Washington, D.C., to attend a series of recognition events
and professional development opportunities, and a $10,000
award from the National Science Foundation.
On June 7, 2010, President Obama named 103 mathematics and
science teachers as recipients of the prestigious
Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science
Teaching.
“Science
and technology have long been at the core of America’s
strengthand competitiveness, and the scientists and
engineers who have led America on its remarkable path to
success share something very precious: science and
mathematics teachers who brought these critical subjects to
life,”
said President Obama. “Today
we honor some of the best of these teachers and thank them
for their dedication. They are inspirations not just to
their students, but to the Nation and the world.”

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics
and Science Teaching are the Nation's highest honors for
teachers of mathematics and science. The Awards recognize
outstanding K-12 teachers for their contributions in the
classroom and to their profession. Since 1983, more than
4,000 teachers have been recognized for their contributions
to mathematics and science education.

network of professionals. Nominations for teachers of grades
7-12 will open in Fall 2010.
